Vegetable chips are a delicious and healthy snack
Dehydrated vegetable chips are a real panacea, in fact thanks to drying they preserve all the properties of fresh vegetables and at the same time they can be stored for a long time and consumed on various occasions.
In Japanese culture, for example, snacks consumed daily are always much healthier than Western ones, in fact they are mainly composed of dried vegetables or fish and in most cases they are consumed natural. It is no coincidence that the Japanese are one of the longest-lived people on the planet.
Vegetable Chips | When to eat them?
Crispy vegetable chips are very versatile and can be eaten on many occasions.
- They can be enjoyed, for example, as a mid-morning or afternoon snack.
- During the aperitif in combination with sauces of any kind (better if they are homemade) and in this case they replace the less healthy packaged "crisps".
- To garnish first courses or second courses of meat or fish.
- To add a crunchy note or a contrasting flavour to a cream soup or soup.
- They can also be used (after rehydrating them) to prepare tasty sauces, or condiments for first courses, giving you the possibility of using out-of-season raw materials, but with results in terms of taste very similar to using fresh seasonal products.
- Finally, if cut more roughly they can be used to make vegetable soups.
Not just vegetables… Fruit chips!
Chips can also be made with fruit and the results are truly surprising and tasty.
These too can be consumed on many occasions, as a sweet snack, before or during physical activity to replenish energy, or to make cakes or muffins.
How to Make Vegetable Chips Using the Dehydrator
Making vegetable chips is a very simple and quick operation, and with the help of the dryer you will be able to achieve excellent results.
- Wash the ingredients well.
- Remove peel if inedible or unwanted.
- Cut the vegetables into very thin slices (if you are not good with a knife we suggest using a mandolin to have all the slices of the same thickness)
- Place the slices inside the dryer
- Set the temperature and timer according to the foods you are drying (more information about times and temperatures in the manual)
- At the end of the cycle, check that all the slices are properly dried (otherwise you can extend the cycle without fear of ruining them)
- Store them in airtight containers or, even better, vacuum-packed .
Suggestions
If you want to make potato chips, we suggest soaking them for 30 minutes and then rinsing them very well. Be sure to drain them and dry them well before placing them in the dryer. This step helps to remove the starch they contain and make them crispier.
